Meson production by neutrinos incident on nucleons

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

Production and exchange of nonstrange pseudoscalar and vector mesons are considered in the peripheral model. For nonstrange mesons a consequence of this model is that the corresponding v and v cross-sections are equal, assuming that v and v couple to the same isospin multiplet. The cross-section for production or ρ and ω with π exchange, with and without simultaneous excitation of the 3/2, 3/2 resonance, is found to be a fraction (with strong dependence on badly known form factors) of the «elastic» cross-section, σ(v+n→p+μ-), at a few GeV incidentneutrino energy. Production of π and η mesons with π and ω exchange is computed also, and is found to be very small.
