Baryon number 2, unitary singlet as a test of one-particle-exchange dynamical models

Summary

B 8-B8scattering is studied making use of the fact that the forces contain the sameBBP Hamiltonian as theP 8-B8problem. This circumstance is exploited to find consistency conditions in low partial waves using experimental data. Results are consistent only if a new particle exists with quantum numbersB=2, T=Y=J=O, andF/D ratio inBBP coupling ≃1/3. It is argued that if this state does not exist the dynamical calculations, based on one-particle exchange and lowestlying threshold dominance, would have to be reconsidered. Besides this, such a particle would have interesting properties, in particular if its mass lies below2mΛ, as could very well be the case: a possibility would then be open to study the weak decays of Σ°.
