Z-dependence of photoelectric cross-section in the energy region of absorption edges (6.4÷136.47) keV

Summary

Total photon cross-sections are measured by the transmission method using a Si(Li) spectrometer on a good geometry set-up in elements 6⩽Z⩽92 at eight energies in the region of absorption edges. Photoelectric cross-sections are deduced from these by subtracting the theoretical contributions due to coherent and incoherent scattering. These values along with previous experimental data are used to study theZ-dependence of photoelectric cross-section in the energy region of absorption edges. TheZ-exponent is found to vary from 3.6 to 4.6 in general agreement with those evaluated using Scofield’s theoretical photoelectric cross-sections.
