Summary
The experimental results on\(\bar \nu _\mu \)-electron scattering, when interpreted withinSU 2×U 1 theories, put severe constraints on the weak charge of the right-handed electron. Under very general assumptions it is shown that the casesI weak3 (e −R )=0 or − 1/2 are possible. The caseI weak3 (e −R )=+1/2 is found to be unlikely. All other assignments for e −R are excluded. Consequences for parity violation in atomic physics are discussed.
