High multiplicities, rising plateaux and cross-sections: Signal of hadronic phase transition

Summary

We study the phenomenological implications of a particular singularity in hadron production, which is demanded by i) Koba-Nielsen-Olesen scaling, ii) factorization, iii) analyticity, and results in a phase transition in the Feynman-Wilson analogue fluid. We show that this singularity, combined with ordinary meson and pomeron exchanges in a Regge-Mueller model, can describe all long-range effects exhibited by the data, in the longitudinal region. We simultaneously fit the total and elastic cross-sections, the average multiplicity, the integrated correlationf 2, the height of the plateau and the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the forward elastic-scattering amplitude, for proton-proton collisions, in a wide energy range.

Si studiano le implicazioni fenomenologiche di una singolarità particolare nella produzione adronica, che è richiesta i) dalla variazione di scala di Koba-Nielsen-Olesen, ii) dalla fattorizzazione, iii) dall’analiticità e dà come risultato la transizione di fase nel fluido analogo di Feynman-Wilson. Si mostra che questa singolarità, sommata agli scambi ordinari del pomerone e del mesone in un modello di Regge-Mueller, può descrivere tutti gli effetti a lungo raggio mostrati dai dati nella regione longitudinale. Si adattano simultaneamente le sezioni d’urto totale ed elastica, la molteplicità media, la correlazione integrataf 2, l’altezza del plateau e il rapporto tra la parte reale ed immaginaria dell’ampiezza dello scattering elastico in avanti, per le collisioni protone-protone in un ampio intervallo di energia.
