Summary
In this note the theory of Free-Electron Laser (FEL) supermodes is extended to cover particle distributions with a correlation between energy and longitudinal position in a Gaussian bunch. This extension is important for FEL’s in storage rings, because wake forces stemming from discontinuities in the vacuum chamber as well as the FEL process itself give rise to such correlations.
