Summary

In the space spanned by all particle-hole states, the coupling between those of the usual truncated set and the others is investigated as the effect of a factorable residual interaction. The point spectrum and the electromagnetic transition probabilities for transitions connecting its eigenstates to the ground state are determined and the results are compared with those of the schematic TD model. One finds that the coupling between discrete and continuum particle-hole states has effects on the discrete spectrum and, in theT=0 case, on the e.m. transition probabilities similar to those of including particle correlations in the ground state as evaluated in the RPA.
