Quasi-free scattering from α-clusters.

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1965-1970)

Summary

The process of emission, of a-clusters by quasi-free scattering in medium and heavy nuclei is discussed. It is suggested that the most advantageous arrangement for investigating this reaction with high-energy particles is a nonsymmetric arrangement in which the momentum transfer is small, while for medium-energy projectilesa different nonsymmetrie experiment is more suitable.

  13. This has been demonstrated explicitly for the polonium isotopes byK. Harada:Progr. Theor. Phys.,27, 430 (1962) using oscillator wavefunctions. An investigation of the form ofψ b, in which the interaction of theα-cluster with theA — 4 core nucleons is represented by a simple square well plus a Coulomb term, also indicates that the radial wavefunction for the state with the highest allowed angular momentumL is strongly localized, and that theα-cluster density is confined to the spatial region betweenR 0—1.5 fermi andR 0 fermi whereR 0=1.4(A–4)1/3.
