Diffraction of neutrons on heavy water

Summary

The existence of big molecular aggregates in the water structure, previously proposed in various models, has been investigated by neutron diffraction methods, in the case of heavy water. No coherent effect corresponding to an aggregate structure has been found, although the sensitivity of the experiment was fairly high. On the other hand the same negative conclusion was deduced after a calculation of the light scattering (Tyndall effect).
