Observations of 4C sources at 408 MHz

Summary

520 4C sources were observed with the E-W arm of the Bologna «Northern Cross» radiotelescope, at a frequency of 408 MHz with the resolving power of (4×100) minutes of arc. The main purpose of this work was to study the dependence of the mean spectral index on the flux. The observed sources represent about 90% of the 4C sources in the region between δ=+30° and δ=+40° and are a homogeneous sample. The omitted 4C sources were lost either because of the presence of the Galaxy or because of random external interferences.

Riassunto

Nell’estate e nell’autunno 1966 sono state osservate, col braccio E-W del radiotelescopio di Bologna, alla frequenza di 408 MHz e con un potere risolutivo di (4×100) primi, 520 radiosorgenti appartenenti al catologo 4C, allo scopo di studiare la dipendenza del flusso dell’indice spettrale medio fra 178 MHz e 408 MHz. Le sorgenti osservate rappresentano circa il 90% delle sorgenti 4C contenute nella regione fra δ=+30° e δ=+40°. Le sorgenti mancanti non sono state osservate a causa di interferenze esterne dovute a ponti radio o per la presenza della Galassia. Essendo queste perdite distribuite a caso rispetto all’intensità delle sorgenti, il campione esaminato può essere considerato omogeneo relativamente al flusso.

Наблюдались 520 4C источников с помошью Болонского радиотелескопа « Северный Крест », при частоте 408 МНz, с раэрещаюшей способностью (4 · 100) угловых минут. Основная цель зтой раобты — иэучение эависимости среднего спектрального индекса от потока. Наблюденные источники представляют около 90% 4С источников в области между δ=+30° и δ= +40° и являются однородным обраэцом. Невключенные 4C источники потеряны либо иэ-эа наличия Галактики, либо иэ-эа случайной внещней интерференции.
