Abstract
A new heat treatment method, the duplex treatment (DT), has been developed. In comparison with the available heat treatment methods, including conventional temperature austenitization treatment (CTA), high-temperature austenitization treatment (HTA), and double austenitization treatment (DA), DT can give higher fracture toughness and notch toughness, with identical and even slightly higher strength. These improvements could be due to the inheritance of the ben-eficial variations in fine-scale microstructures, which occurred during heating at high temper-ature and to the depression of the memory effect of coarse austenite grain, which arose from high heating temperature.
