Rectal perforations during administration of barium enemas

Summary

The three case reports which have been presented show the seriousness of rectal injuries (and ensuing complications) that can be caused by administration of barium enemas. I am sure that these injuries can be prevented if the enemas are administered carefully. However, when such trauma does occur, complications can be reduced by early recognition and treatment.
