  • Published:
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum

Summary and Conclusions

The physiology of fecal continence has been reviewed briefly. The functional results that have been reported following various sphincter-preserving operations have been reviewed and compared. Details of surgical technic, as they relate to the functional results, have been discussed.
