Abstract

An integrated design and automated manufacturing system for making cabinet doors has been developed and implemented. A standard CAD package is used for designing the components and a CAM system, consisting of a modified industrial woodshaper and additional motion-control hardware, produces the components. A software environment has been developed to integrate both design and manufacturing functions. The system has been shown to reduce the time for designing and manufacturing a single door by a factor of four.
