Summary

For determination of the equilibrium state of landslides the geoacoustic (rock noise) method was used. The landslides in the reservoirs of Šance Dam (Czechoslovakia) and Tablachaca Dam (Peru) were used for pilot studies. The results show that the geoacoustic method is suitable for detecting the transition from stable to unstable state almost immediately during the change of the state. By determining the equilibrium state, the true values of data influencing the back calculation of shear strength on the known slip surface can be established.
