Abstract
The existence of a Paramagnetic Meissner Effect (PME) in some samples of superconductor (especially BSCCO) has been interpreted as evidence for the breaking of time reversal symmetry in the system and as involving the trapping of half flux quanta in loops or in grains. We present results of experiments on PME in fine powders of BSCCO and use them to derive values for the magnitude and concentration of the moments. We find that the moments are probably too small to be accounted for by the trapping of half flux quanta.
