On the possibility of gasless detonation in condensed systems

Abstract

The possibility of self-propagating gasless detonation in the mixtures normally used in self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) has been theoretically predicted. The necessary and sufficient condition for this process is a positive isobaric-isochoric reaction heat (or a positive volume decrement at constant pressure and enthalpy). Preliminary experimental evidence for the occurrence of this process has been obtained.
