Role of F3 color centers in colloid formation process in alkali-halide crystals

Abstract

A mechanism of the initial stage of colloid formation by trapping an electron on an isolated cation—one of the nearest neighbors of the F3 color center—is discussed. Some properties of R centers are explained. Data indicating the colloidal nature of centers absorbing in the N region of the spectrum of aLiF crystal are presented.
