Validation problems for remotely sensed sea surface temperature

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento C

Summary

A linear algorithm developed for the split window technique was tested using high-quality in situ data obtained during the ADRIA-84 campaign. All the problems related to the validation process have been considered in detail: screening of the data, their preparation, their matching in space and time. The sea surface temperature derived from AVHRR-2 data, when compared with the corresponding in situ measured temperature, showed a standard deviation of 0.2K, after the removal of a bias of 0.1K.
