Conclusions

  1. 1.

Experimental-analytical and full-scale studies in areas with dimensions more than 10 m were used to obtain a dependence for determining the strain modulus of a rock mass based on laboratory test data and description of rock mass crack characteristics.

  2. 2.

In spite of the simple rock mass model used in treating the results (elastic, isotropic, homogeneous), the values of strain modulus obtained from which the dependence was constructed have with a reliability of 0.9 a confidence range up to 30%, which is entirely satisfactory for production purposes [6].

  3. 3.

Comparison of the results of determining strain modulus for a rock mass provided by Ter-Mikaelyan in zones of hydraulic structure construction showed a qualitative relationship for the dependences obtained. With competent assumption about a reduction in rock mass stability category in the weathered zone in relation to the rock mass stability category at a considerable depth agreement is obtained not only qualitatively but also quantitatively within the limits of 30% error.
