Summary
Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) is currently undergoing a rapid phase of investigation and the number of associated developments is exponentally expanding. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of CEC in terms of both technological advances and application. Quantitative aspects of CEC are discussed and the novel use of CEC for assay purposes is demonstrated by determining the nicotinamide content in a vitamin formulation sample. The relative merits of CEC compared to HPLC and CE are critically assessed. It is concluded that, with the current rate of CEC development, that there will soon be a further routine analytical alternative and supplement to both HPLC and CE.
