Abstract

This paper reports on the effect of loss of bond in lap splices of flexurally loaded reinforced masonry walls. The performance of reinforced concrete masonry walls with different percentages of loss of bond in lap splices of reinforcing steel bars at the tension lap splices under flexural loading were studied. A total of 20 wall specimens were constructed and tested with the nominal dimensions of each specimen being 11/2 blocks wide and 7 blocks in height, built in running bond with the flexural reinforcement centered in the outer cells and spliced at mid-height. The block and the grout strengths were kept identical in all the specimens. Two different sizes of reinforcing steel, Y12 and Y16, were used.
