The extraction of data from an optical image by scanning

Abstract

The Vickers Cytology Scanning Apparatus is described and critically examined to determine how it works and to discover the uses and limitations of scanning methods. Studies were made on cervical smears of the appearance of the scan, the relationship between the pulse width and the dimension of the nucleus, the range of density levels of the nucleus and cytoplasm, the slope at the edge of the nucleus, and on interference by two cells in proximity. A theoretical study of conditions at the trigger point showed that the pulse width was a function of the densities of both nucleus and cytoplasm.

Sommaire
