Conclusions

  1. 1.

For the analysis of arch and gravity-arch dams, wide use is made of the trial-load method. The difficulty and tediousness of the analysis using the trial-load method for determining the equalization loads make it extremely important at the present time to automate this method by means of electronic computers.

  2. 2.

The method of cantilever-arch directions presented by the writers, which is based on the ideas of the wellknown method of variable directions used in mathematical physics, makes it possible to take into consideration the specific characteristics of the equations which arise in the trial-load method, to correlate the method of development at the analytical scheme with the method of solution of the equalization problem, and to create an algorithm realized on an electronic computer at the Gidroproekt Institute.

  3. 3.

The analysis of the results obtained by using the MACD method demonstrated the effectiveness of this method and permitted using the program in the design of several arch dams.
