Rode Eersteling: a false name for a well-known tuber colour mutant

Summary

It is shown that the monectochimeraRote Holländische Erstling used in Klopfer's chimera experiments does not correspond with the present homohistic Dutch potato varietyRode Eersteling. The latter seems to be identical with Klopfer's homohisticErstling Rouge.4

This misapprehension is caused mainly by replacing the original monectochimerical varietyRode Eersteling in 1942 by a homohistic red sport, derived from it, without changing the variety name.
