Elimination of accidental reference-grating rotations in moiré strain analysis

Reference-grating rotations can be reduced to an insignificant amount when using the moiré of moiré technique with fine-pitch gratings by a strict geometrical location of the reference grating on the model

Abstract

A point-line-plane mounting system for the reference grating is described which significantly reduces the friction in the location devices. Without friction, any unintentional rotation of the reference grating is eliminated.

Fringe patterns obtained with the previously used semigeometric mounting and the improved system are presented for comparison.
