Summary

Based on the linear relationship between RM and the logarithm of the concentration of the more efficient eluting component in binary and ternary solvent systems, a graphical method is proposed for the optimization of stepwise gradient elution. The method is experimentally examined by TLC-gradient in special sandwich —type chromatographic tanks, with eight coloured model compounds. Conclusions concerning the use of TLC data to determine the optimal gradient programs are drawn.
