Direct determination of partition coefficients of volatile liquids between oil and gas by gas chromatography and its use in QSAR analysis

Summary

A gas-liquid chromatographic method has been used for direct determination of the partition coefficients (KD) of alcohols, ethers and ketones between olive oil and nitrogen. Olive oil was characterised as a stationary phase for gas chromatography. The differential molar enthalpies of solution were also calculated from retention data. Correlations between log KD for olive oil — nitrogen and molecular connectivity indices, differential molar enthalpies of solution, biological activity and partition coefficients for blood-air were obtained.
