Two characteristics are proposed for characterizing the physical and physicochemical properties of chromatographic columns. These characteristics do not give information about the selectivity of a column. On the assumption of a constant number of theoretical plates, the characteristics β_i indicates the number of possible peaks per time unit. The characteristic E_i indicates the information capacity as the product of characteristics β_i and the possible peak number in an given interval. These characteristics allow a distinction to be made between the different types of chromatography.

Zusammenfassung

Zur Charakterisierung chromatographischer Trennsäulen werden für die physikalischen und physikalisch-chemischen Eigenschaften zwei Kennzahlen vorgeschlagen. Die Kennzahlen geben naturgemäß keinen Aufschluß über die Selectivität einer Trennsäule. Unter der Annahme einer konstanten Bodenzahl gibt die Kennzahl β_i die möglichen Peaks pro Zeiteinheit an. Die Kennzahl E_i gibt die Informationsleistung als Produkt aus der Kennzahl β_i mit der möglichen Peakzahl in einem vorgegebenen Intervall an. Die genannten Kennzahlen gestatten eine Unterscheidung der verschiedenen Chromatographieformen.

Deux caractéristiques sont proposées pour définir les propriétés physiques et physico-chimiques des colonnes en chromatographie. Ces caractéristiques ne donnent naturellement pas d'information sur la sélectivité d'une colonne. En supposant un nombre de plateaux constant, la caractéristique β_i indique le nombre possible de pics par unité de temps. La caractéristique E_i donne la «capacité d'information» pour un intervalle de temps donné, en tant que produit de la caractéristique β_i par le nombre de pics possible. Les caractéristiques mentionnées pemettent de faire une distinction entre les différentes méthodes de chromatographie.
