Summary
A liquid chromatographic method was developed to analyse the products of the reaction between urea and ethylene diamine in aqueous solution. Dowex 50W-X8, H+, 200–400 mesh, cation-exchange resin was found to be the best column packing for this purpose. Hydrochloric acid of various concentrations was used as the mobile phase; a concentration of 2M hydrochloric acid proved to be the most satisfactory. The developed method permits the separation of the following substances: ammonia, ethylene urea, urea, aminoethylene urea, and ethylene diamine.
