Summary
A method for toxicological examinations is described, which is used together with the well known extraction technique for body fluids and viscera according to STAS-OTTO for the identification of a number of acidic and neutral drugs, especially barbituric acid derivatives. Thin layer chromatographic technique on Kieselgel G, a low cost gas chromatograph and a number of simple chemical group tests are used for the qualitative and quantitative determination of the substances without further purification. Relative retention times on three different stationary phases and Rf-values for eleven barbituric acid derivatives, five metabolites of Secobarbital and Amobarbital and for twelve other frequently occurring drugs are given. The detection limit is in the microgram range.
