The electrolytes in gastric secretion after insulin stimulation

  • Published:
The American Journal of Digestive Diseases Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

The electrolyte pattern of gastric juice after vagal stimulation induced by insulin hypoglycemia is presented.

The behavior of total chloride, sodium, and total acidity showed the same relationship as that observed after histamine or Histalog stimulation.

However, the increase of potassium concentration observed after histamine and Histalog has not been found after insulin stimulation. The decrease of potassium concentration in the gastric juice may be a result of potassium retention of cells accomplished by insulin.

No correlation between the time-concentration curve of potassium and total acidity was found.
