A new technique for the determination of the number of latex particles per unit volume

Summary

A method has been developed for measuring the number of particles per unit volume of latex by direct counting, with an error of about ±10%. The values obtained forN are unaffected by changes in particle size or shape in the microscope, or by size distribution of the particles, provided all particles are individually identifiable in the microscope. Soap present in the latex must be removed by dialysis though coagulation of the latex must be avoided.

Zusammenfassung

Es wurde eine Methode zur Bestimmung der Anzahl von Latexteilchen in der Volumeneinheit ausgearbeitet. Die Meßgenauigkeit beträgt ±10%. Vorausgesetzt, daß jedes Teilchen einzeln im Mikroskop zu erkennen ist, haben weder Unterschiede in der Teilchengröße, in der Form noch in der Größenverteilung einen Einfluß auf die Ergebnisse. Durch Dialyse sollte die im Latex erhaltene Seife entfernt werden, wobei das Koagulieren der Latex verhindert werden muß.
