Abstract
Some authors described common antigens between Mycobacteria andCandida albicans. The aim of the present paper was therefore to prove the reliability of the Candida haemagglutination test in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis
Sera from patients with proven diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis were tested in parallel with the indirect haemagglutination test on antibodies against Candida and Mycobacteria. No correlation could be found between the two titers. By absorbing the sera with cells ofCandida albicans or erythrocytes sensitized with tuberculin the heterologous titer remained unchanged, while a complete absorption of the homologous antibodies could be observed.
When antigens (polysaccharids or glycoproteins) prepared according to Westphal's phenol extraction procedure are used, the results of the Candida haemagglutination test are also reliable in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
