Summary
In the Federal Republic of Germany the application of the HL-A System in particular paternity cases is demanded more and more by the courts. This can be explained by the extraordinary usefulness of this system resulting in a general exclusion chance of approximately 90%. In order to confirm the hereditary rules and to get information on the gene- and haplotype-frequencies of a German population, we have examined 110 families from which we could derive 462 haplotypes. In one case a recombination was detected, in two families illegitimacy was stated which was confirmed by exclusion in other well-established systems. Furthermore the delta values (linkage disequilibrium) were calculated according to the Mattiuz' formula using the phenotypes of 1028 unrelated Hessian blood donors. The haplotype frequencies obtained by gene counting as well as by calculation were compared with the results of other authors and showed a good agreement in general when considering the seven most frequent haplotypes (> 2%). In a table the casual probabilities i.e. the frequencies of non excludable men in the random population are listed separately for the two HL-A loci and the seven most common haplotypes.
