Reoxidation of a reduced molybdena-alumina disproportionation catalyst with water

Abstract

Hydrogen removable from a molybdena-alumina disproportionation catalyst reduced by hydrogen at 550°C, and the hydrogen formed from water on the reduced catalyst were determined by elution with nitrogen. Water adsorbed on the catalyst at the end of reduction partly reoxidizes molybdenum oxide during elution. Consequently, a considerable part of the hydrogen removable by elution does not arise from reversibly adsorbed hydrogen but from adsorbed water.
