Summary
In rabbits intoxicated with CCl4, one third of the sera gave a positive reaction in the complement-fixation test with various tissue antigens. The gel precipitation test has been positive in two third of the sera from all animals. The rapid occurrence of these factors in the serum and the cross reaction indicate, that they are substances with no hepatic specificity. Isoimmunization of the rabbits was associated with the occurrence of some factors with low titers showing a positive reaction. Heteroimmunization with human and guinea pig liver extract lead to the demonstration of antibodies with very high titers by means of passive hemagglutination, gel precipitation and latex test. Adsorption of these sera with kidney and spleen lyophilisates caused a lowering of the titer, whereas adsorption with liver lyophilisates lead to a complete disappearence of the titer. Our results show the presence of specific and non-specific factors in the sera of rabbits at the same time.
