Ethanol: Larval discrimination between two Drosophila sibling species

Summary

Newly hatched larvae of D. melanogaster preferentially migrate to agar containing ethanol, whereas its sibling species D. simulans shows no initial preference. This can be related to the ecological biology of resource utilization in the wild.
