Effect of crowding in egg laying in Oligonychus mangiferus (Rahm. & Sap.) (Acar., Tetranychidae)

Abstract

Crowding adversely affects egg laying inOligonychus mangiferus. The crowding effect is independent of food scarcity effect. Involvement of population density regulating factors, presumably pheromones can be considered a distinct possibility.

Zusammenfassung

Eine zu hohe Dichte (Crowding) führte bei der SpinnmilbeOligonychus mangiferus in Laborversuchen zu signifkanter Senkung der Zahl abgelegter Eier. Das Ergebnis wird mit den Befunden anderer Autoren zum Crowding-Effekt verglichen und hinsichtlich seines Mechanismus und seiner biologischen Bedeutung betrachtet.
