Summary
In 11 dogs LDH activity and isoenzymes were determined in serum, cardiac, renal, hepatic, intestinal and leg lymph, in the myocardium, liver, kidney, intestinal wall, skeletal muscle and skin. Significantly higher activities than in serum were found in leg and cardiac lymph. Isoenzyme patterns in lymph differed significantly from the pattern in serum. The patterns in cardiac and intestinal lymph were not significantly different from that in the tissues of origin.
In another 11 dogs LDH activity and isoenzymes were studied in the leg and thoracic duct lymph and arterial and femoral vein serum before and after occlusion of blood flow in both hind limbs. Anoxia increased LDH activity in leg lymph and serum. In serum a significant arterio-venous difference was observed. Ischaemic shock did lead subsequently to an elevation of the enzyme level in thoracic duct lymph. The analysis of the isoenzyme patterns showed, that this enzyme is of visceral origin.
The results indicated that LDH is transported from the tissues by lymphatics as well as by blood capillaries.
