Abstract

Assuming that the nucleon is a bound state in the πN system we derive the approximate formula for a phase shift in theP 11 wave. The left-hand cut is approximated by two poles and the effect of inelastic processes on the scattering amplitude of the partial waveP 11 is discussed in terms of Froissart's method. The values of the inelastic parameter are taken from the experimental data. In this way the agreement with the experimental values of the phase shift in theP 11 wave for low energies can be obtained.
