Über das „Einrollen“ von Eiattrappen bei Zwergwachteln(Excalfactoria chinensis)

Zusammenfassung

• 1. Bei 5 Zwergwachtel-♀♀ wurde der Auslösewert verschiedener Eiattrappen für das Einrollen der Eier durch simultane Zweifach-Wahlversuche getestet. Die zuerst eingerollte Attrappe galt als „bevorzugt“. Die Ergebnisse wurden statistisch ausgewertet.

• 2. Das Eirollverhalten konnte oft hintereinander und auch durch entfernt liegende Eier (80 cm und weiter) ausgelöst werden.

• 3. Für das Einrollen waren vor allem folgende Ei-Reize bedeutungsvoll: harte und glatte Oberfläche sowie naturgemäße Färbung. Die Größe und Form des Eies hatte weniger Bedeutung.

• 4. Gelbe und grüne Eier wurden vor roten und blauen bevorzugt. Eventuell ist auch die Helligkeit der Farbe von Bedeutung.

• 5. Die mögliche biologische Bedeutung des Eirollverhaltens der Zwergwachtel wird diskutiert.

Summary

• 1. The releasing value of different egg-dummies for egg-rolling behaviour was tested in 5 female Painted Quails(Excalfactoria cbinensis) in simultaneous double-choice experiments. The model that was rolled first was considered to have the highest releasing value. The results were evaluated statistically.

• 2. Egg-rolling behaviour could be elicited frequently and from a distance of 80 cm and more.

• 3. For egg-rolling, the following egg-stimuli were particularly significant: hard and plain surface and natural colouring. Size and shape of the eggs, on the other hand, were of little account.

• 4. Yellow and green eggs were preferred to red and blue ones. The brightness of the colour also seems to have some significance.

• 5. The biological function of egg-rolling behaviour in Painted Quails is discussed.
