Summary
There is a physiological necessity for the existence of lymphaticovenous communications in points other than the terminal entry of the lymphatic trunks into the superior caval system. These communications are frequently seen, as well in clinical practice as in experimentation, when there is an obstacle to the downstream lymphatic flow, but their exact nature cannot be determined. We have been able to demonstrate on the rat that such communications are established within the lymph nodes. We shall discuss the physiological importance of our findings together with a review of the literature and consider their clinical and therapeutic consequences.

L'existence de communications lymphoveineuses en d'autres points que l'abouchement terminal des gros troncs lymphatiques dans le système cave supérieur est une nécessité physiologique. Lorsqu'il existe un obstacle sur le flux lymphatique d'aval elles sont fréquemment visualisées en clinique ou en expérimentation, sans que leur nature exacte puisse être précisée. Nous avons pu montrer sur le rat que de telles communications s'établissent à l'intérieur des nœuds lymphatiques (nodi lymphatici). Nous en discutons l'importance physiologique à la lumière des travaux d'autres expérimentateurs et nous envisageons les conséquences cliniques et thérapeutiques qui en découlent.
