Summary

The composition of uropygial gland secretions indicates the formerly stated separate position ofAptenodytes forsteri andA. patagonicus from all other recent penguins withSpheniscus located nearest to them.Pygoscelis adeliae cannot be chemically distinguished fromP. papua.
