Unilateral hearing loss due to rubella infection in the adult

Summary

A 25-year-old woman, admitted on account of rubella infection, developed sudden loss of hearing in her right ear a few days after admission, which was diagnosed as severe sensorineural hearing loss. In view of the recent rubella infection, it seems reasonable to assume that this was a case of complicated neuritis confined to a single eighth nerve.
