Abstract
Nonlinear perturbations of plasma are derived for the case of a quasi-monochromatic wave packet propagating perpendicularly to the magnetic field. Radiation pressure forces arising from the time dependence of the wave amplitude are included. Thermal pressure and collisional effects are neglected in the hydrodynamic description. An enhancement of the nonlinear perturbations is found for group velocity of the wave packet near to the velocity of Alfvén waves. The perturbations of magnetic field and of plasma concentration increase also at both lower- and upper-hybrid resonances.
