Abstract
A generalization of existing pair potentials is proposed for the description of anisotropic interactions. For a system of particles interacting via this generalized potentialu(λ) basic statistical thermodynamic relations are formulated by means of the correlation function <g>λ and further applied to some physically significant problems. The system of hard convex bodies is studied in detail and approximate expressions for the equation of state and for 〈g〉 at the contact point are found; a first order perturbation expansion with the hard convex body reference system is formulated.
