Contents

An analytical method for calculating the thrust of a single-sided linear induction motor (LIM), including the effects of both phase unbalance and higher time harmonics has been presented. Unbalance of the phase currents under balanced voltage operation is due to asymmetry of the primary windings and to longitudinal end effect. While higher time harmonics have little effect, phase unbalance produces a deterioration of a few percent in thrust.
