Summary
One mgm. doses of ergotamine tartrate given daily to a group of long-standing aggressive and destructive patients were sufficient to restrain temporarily many of their troublesome symptoms, the result being shown in improved emotional response and thinking ability. Six of the cases that failed to retain their improvements with ergotamine later were insulin or metrazol failures likewise. There were only insignificant changes in peripheral autonomic effects, a slight depression of the sympathetic mechanisms being shown as is demonstrated by the increased weight, appetite and rectal temperature, and decreased pulse pressure, blood sugar
