Monitoring of the concrete dam of the Boguchany hydroelectric station in the construction period

Hydrotechnical Construction Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Since the start of construction of the Boguchany hydrostation, 1184 remote transducers, which are used for monitoring the state of sections of the concrete dam and foundation during the construction period, have been installed in the concrete dam as of October 1992. An automated system for processing and analyzing the data of observations has been created and is being introduced, which will make possible prompt monitoring of the state of sections of the concrete dam and foundations in the construction period.

  2. 2.

The stress state of the columns during construction is determined mainly by the temperature regime of the concrete of the columns. The values of normal stresses in the columns of the monitored section on vertical areas are within ±1 MPa. An increase of compressive stresses is observed on horizontal areas, which is related to an increase of the load as the columns are built up. According to the monitoring data, the column joints have a width within 0.5–2.0 mm, which is sufficient for grouting. Under all columns of the dam section the deformations of the rock foundation are due to the load from the mass of concrete, and in the spillway section, in addition, from the mass of water. An increase of compressive strains diminishing with time is observed under the effect of a constant load on the foundation (interruption in concreting).
